General characteristics:

Teles Pires dam is part of the planned Teles Pires Hydroelectric Complex. The other dams are: São Manuel (746 MW), Sinop (461 MW), Colíder (342 MW), Foz do Apiacás (275 MW) and Magessi (53 MW).

Municipalities affected:

Paranaíta (MT) and Jacareanga (PA).

Timeline:

The Federal Government expects the plant to start operating in 2015.

  • Empresa de Pesquisa Energética (EPE) is a agency of the Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME).
  • Neoenergia Investimentos S/A (Neoinvest) is a company controlled by pension funds linked to the Brazilian state-owned Bank of Brazil (Banco do Brasil) and the Welfare Fund for Bank of Brazil's staff (Previ), as well as by the Spanish group Iberdrola.
