General characteristics:
The plant will meet energy demands for cellulose production related to the Jari Project.
Companies:
Jari Energética is a subsidiary of Orsa group, owner of Jari Project.
Municipalities affected:
Laranjal do Jari (AP) and Almeirim (PA).
Affected people:
23 families (part of the Iratapuru community as well as the communities of Porto Sabão, São Francisco, Piunquara and Moreno).
Protected areas affected:
- Iratapuru Sustainable Development Reserve.
- Jari Ecological Station (zone around).
Archeological sites:
Two prehistoric sites were identified in the area (Ilha de Itapeuara and Petróglifo sites) and 11 litho-ceramic sites (Manoel Barbosa, Limoeiro, Nega, Itapeuara Island,Sr. Sebastião,o Santo Antônio, Vila de Santo Antônio, João Galinha, Island Sabão, and João Francisco sites).
Licensing:
Preliminary environmental license granted in 2009.
