General characteristics:

The plant takes water turbocharged by Central Hydropower Agoyan. Part of the water runs its course through the stretch of the river and part is diverted into a tunnel, with 7 m diameter and 11.2 km in length, which crosses the rock mass. San Francisco is composed mainly of tunnels, and underground caves.

Companies:

Hidropastaza S/A, that controls the usine, belongs to the Ecuador State.

Funding:

Brazilian National Developement Bank (BNDES). The investment reached US$ 240 million.

Technical problems:

About a year after the work was completed, the dam got to the point to have its activities stopped. The Brazilian company Odebrecht, leader of the consortium contracted to build the plant, was sued by the Ecuadorian government in international court.
