Companies:

The Estreito Energia consortium, owner of the plant concession, is made up of Brazilian multinational Vale (mining), American multinational Alcoa (aluminum), french energy group GDF Suez and Brazilian construction company Camargo Corrêa.

People affected:

Brazilian Movement of Dam Affected People (MAB) estimates that about 5 thousand families would be affected by the project, more than the official estimates (1287 families).

  • Apinajé (Indigenous Land Apinayé).
  • Krikati (Indigenous Land Krikati).
  • Gavião

all of those communities live in areas of indirect influence of the dam and the impacts are not officially recognized.

Protected areas affected:

  • Monumento Natural das Árvores Fossilizadas state Park  (175 hectares inundated).
  • 6.6 thousand hectares of permanent protection area (PPA).

Archeological sites:

26 archeological sites affected.

Impacts on the fauna:

Endangered species affected: macaco de ordem Primatis (Allouatta), cachorro-do-mato-vinagre, cachorro-do-mato-comum, guariba-preto (Alouatta caraya), saguis (Callithrix penicillata jordani), veado-campeiro e arara-azul-grande (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus).

Recreation areas affected:

Filadélfia, Babaçulândia, Palmeirante and Barra do Ouro beaches, São Romão Waterfall, Isle of Botes and spas Praiolândia and Rio das Pedras.
