General characteristics:

One of the planned hydropower projects in the Araguaia River. Others are Couto Magalhães (150 MW), Isabel (1080 MW) and Torixoréu (408 MW).

Companies:

Eletrobrás is a state company which has, among its main shareholders, the Federal Government and the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES).

* Indigenous population affected:

  • Xavante (Areões, São Marcos, Pimentel Barbosa and Sangradouro / Volta Grande Indigenous Lands).
  • Boróro (Merure and Sangradouro / Big Bend Indigenous Lands).

* social and environmental studies indicated the possibility that the dam would affect over 1000 indigenous people, according to Brazil's National Indigenous Peoples Foundation (FUNAI)
